The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, partnered with contractors from Expert Maintenance, are nearly a month into extensive renovations to the base fitness center locker rooms.
The center serves as the fitness hub to nearly 13 thousand active and retired military members, and their families, as they pursue their health and wellness goals.
Ben Schreiber, the resident engineer assigned to the project, said the comprehensive renovation will give Team Whiteman the modern, state-of-the-art accommodations they need.
Renovations will include:
- LED light fixtures
- Updates to plumbing, plumbing fixtures
- Additional electrical outlets
- USB ports in dressing areas
- Updated HVAC system
- New lockers and benches
- Expanded women’s locker room area
“I was active duty here in 2002,” said Kelly Eckhardt, the contracting office representative. “I think that’s the last time I can remember significant updates being made to this facility. This will have a big impact on the quality of life here.”
Eckhardt said the renovations are scheduled to be completed within six months, which means Whiteman Air Force Base should have new locker rooms to use in time for the holidays.
